On Sunday, August 13, St. Clare Church in O’Fallon will host an open house from 2-4 p.m. This open house at the “the big church on the hill” is just one part of a series of events that the church is hosting to celebrate the parish’s 150th anniversary. This milestone actually falls only two days after the Feast of St. Clare.
At the open house, tours of the parish’s beautiful, 10-year-old church building will feature the 100 million-year-old fossil stone altar and baptism font, Turkish iconography of Christ’s Passion and hand-blown glass windows of Creation, as well as several prayer spaces. Tour guides will be on hand to explain the meaning of the Catholic architecture that decorates the inside and the outside of this church. In addition to the tours of the church, historical artifacts and relics of saints will be on display for visitors. The celebration will also feature live music and refreshments. These refreshments will include the parish’s trademark and sought after zucchini breads, so patrons are encouraged to arrive early or they could miss out.
