O’FALLON – O’Fallon VFW Post 805 held their Fourth Annual 0.1k Fun Run this past Saturday. Registration reached a record high of 369 participants, and in total, the post raised an all time high $8,200 for the VFW National Home for Children.
The VFW National Home for Children has a sprawling 629 acre campus in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. The organization helps active duty military, veterans and their families get back on their feet. There are 42 homes on the property where families can live for up to four years, and a variety of other services to help create the best life possible. Illinois VFW posts sponsor two homes on the property, and the money raised by Post 805 will be a great help to the organization. Race facilitators Sharon and Paul Zinck presented the check at the awards ceremony, along with other administrative members of Post 805.
Many local businesses sponsored the race, including Shiloh Chiropractic, CycleSurf Studio, Osborne Family Chiropractic, Veterans United and many more.
Several local groups made a strong showing, like the Van Der Clute Riders, a VFW RC based out of Caseyville that has members in O’Fallon and many surrounding communities.
Festivities after the race included lunch, awards presentations and the celebration of World War II Marine Corps veteran Bob Schutz’s 95th birthday.
