The new St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is located along North Green Mount Road. Plans to build the $300 million facility was first announced in June 2014 and a Certificate of Need was approved by the state in April 2015. A ground breaking ceremony was held that following June.
O’FALLON – Opening day at the new St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is fast approaching.
Set to open to patients on November 4, the five story facility has begun letting in the public to view everything she has to offer. Featuring state-of-the-art medical technology, St. Elizabeth’s staff isn’t bashful when stating they feel it will be the health and wellness destination for the region.
Situated on 120 acres, the hospital has a large area to use for future growth and expansion. While the facility is new and modern, there are significant nods to the previous location in Belleville, specifically in the Chapel, located on the fifth floor.
You can tour the hospital yourself at one of the public open houses to be held on October 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Director – Construction Management Susan Holloway shows off some of the equipment in the hospital’s Hybrid Operating Room. The Hybrid OR features advanced imaging technology that is used in high-intensity procedures, such as neuro surgery and vascular procedures.
The piece of technology Holloway is describing features cameras that allow surgeons to view the operation from their smartphone, allowing them to instantly request opinions and assistance from specialized physicians by giving them access during a procedure. This equipment could be vita, during perhaps a heart catheterization and an unexpected mass is found. By allowing a specialist to address the issue at that moment through telesurgical technology, the issue can be addressed at that moment, eliminating the need for additional surgeries.
