A boil order, initially issued by Illinois American Water impacting most of St. Clair County on Wednesday, January 3, continued until Sunday causing many local restaurants to close for five and a half days or figure out different ways to cook and provide guests with drinks.
Boil orders are a safe guard of public safety and raise water awareness, but, in this case, the most recent one proved decidedly bad for eateries. Many local restaurants posted hand crafted signs announcing everything from menu changes to establishment closures due to the lack of usable water. Though surrounding areas had already lifted the precautionary order by Friday, O’Fallon residents and business owners were asked to observe the order 48 hours longer.
