FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS – An O’Fallon man is in custody and charged with falsely making terrorist threats against shoppers at St. Clair Square Mall on Sunday.
According to Fairview Heights Police, on August 12, 2018, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Fairview Heights officers were dispatched to the St. Clair Square Mall due to a male, who called making terroristic threats to harm patrons as they exited the mall. The call had been made to the MECOM dispatch center, which handles calls for service in Fairview Heights, O’Fallon, and Shiloh.
A search of the mall parking lot did not yield any suspicious vehicles or persons. However, officers who were on duty were provided the audio recording of the call and the suspect’s voice was recognized by officers from prior incidents.
The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Fazil Masud Imdad, who lives in the 1300 Block of Terrace Green Lane in O’Fallon.
As officers continued to investigate the incident, Imdad was found at his business, Sign-O-Rama, on Frank Scott Parkway, where he was taken into custody without resistance.
On Tuesday, August 14, detectives presented the case to the St. Clair County State Attorney, Brendan Kelly’s office where the following charges were filed against Imdad:
Count 1: Falsely Making a Terrorist Threat-Class 1 Felony
Count 2: Falsely Making a Terrorist Threat-Class 1 Felony
Count 3: Disorderly Conduct-Class 4 Felony
Imdad’s bond has been set at $100,000. At the time of the incident, Imdad was out on bond for other felony charges stemming from incidents that occurred in Fairview Heights. Imdad is currently being held at the St. Clair County Jail.
