There is always a lot going on in and around the O’Fallon area. Check out some of the events you just can’t miss…
For everyone… The big show this weekend is the inaugural O’Fallon City Fest, taking place Friday and Saturday in Community Park. The fun kicks off on Friday at 4 p.m. with rides, games, and wall climbing, along with food and drinks. At 5 p.m., tethered hot air balloon rides will be available, weather permitting. Then from 6-10 p.m. Boulderdash will play on the main stage.
On Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., visitors can embrace their inner gear head and enjoy a car show. Also at 8 a.m., the Biathalon 1 mile run/10 mile bike race will begin.
Food and drink stands, rides, games, and the wall climb open at noon. From 1-3 p.m., 3rd Floor will take to the main stage.
Starting at 5 p.m., the City Fest parade will being starting on North Lincoln by Old City Hall and ending at 7th and South Lincoln, traveling straight down Lincoln Avenue.
Tethered hot air balloon rides and the Shriners Drum and Bugle Corp performance will both begin at 6 p.m. Finally, Social Remedy will play on the main stage from 7-10 p.m.
For the sports fanatics… O’Fallon High School sports kicks into gear this weekend starting on Friday night with the annual Blue & Gold Football Kickoff. The fun starts at 5:30 pm with the freshman scrimmage, followed by the Little Panthers, JV squad, Golden Girls, Cheerleaders, Marching Band, and the Varsity Football scrimmage at 8:10 p.m.
On Saturday, the OTHS boys soccer teams will hold their Blue/Gold games, starting at 5 p.m. with the freshman, with JV vs. Varsity to follow. The alumni game will take place at 7:30 p.m.
For the foodie… VFW Post #805 will host their weekly Bingo and Food Truck party at the post, located at 223 West 1st Street in O’Fallon. Starting at 4 p.m. and serving until 10 p.m. this week will be Freddy’s Food Truck and Pig on a Wing. Freddy’s Food Truck will feature Tacos, Carnitas, Tacitos, Tamales, Aguas Frescas and more, while Pig on a Wing specializes in hand crafted sandwiches using the highest quality local ingredients supporting the local community.
Free bingo will begin at 7:30 p.m. and Karaoke will start right after at 9 p.m.
For the film buff… The O’Fallon Public Library is hosting another Classic Movie Day on Sunday, August 19, at 2 p.m. in the Community Room. The library will feature “The Wizard of Oz” and have free refreshments on hand for attendees. The event is free and open to all.
Finally, for those looking to get out of O’Fallon and take a walk on the dark side… Join the St. Louis Paranormal Research Society and walk through one of “America’s Most Haunted Neighborhoods.” Listen to actual paranormal investigators as they share the lesser known haunted aspects of St. Louis’ Lemp Neighborhood.
The sidewalk tour includes:
- The history of the infamous Lemp Mansion
- The site of the Marion Hospital
- The local connection with Francis Tumblety, suspected serial killer
- The story of St. Agatha’s School ghost
- The final stop of your tour will include a visit into the bone-chilling, haunted cellar of the Lemp Brewery Bottle Works!
This walking tour of public spaces is approximately 1.5 hours. The tour guides will meet guests at their Lemp Brewery office located at 1820 Cherokee Street, St. Louis, Missouri 63118. Cost of the tour is $25
