O’FALLON – A Veteran’s Day Celebration took place at Carriel Jr. High School on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 8 a.m. with guest speaker MSgt retired Air Force Veteran Kimberly Huth.
Huth said that our Veterans are men and women who have sacrificed everything for freedom, “their lives sometimes.”
“When America needs to defend herself, it only has to look to the men and women who wear our nation’s uniform,” Huth said. “When the nation is under attack or our democracy is at risk and America turns and looks for who it can send, people like me and the Veterans in this room and millions and millions of generations before us, we raised our hand and said, ‘Here I am. Send me, I’ll go.’ They understood and did it anyway.”
Huth said that those men and women began to gather courage in Junior High School by doing the right thing and would respond wherever and whenever they were asked.
“Because of our Veterans, people like you and I, we will sleep at night knowing if the wolf comes and it attempts to rattle our cage, we will unleash the pack,” she said. “Because of Veterans, we will enjoy the freedoms bestowed by our constitution and secured by generation after generations of servants who didn’t pause when called upon.”
“Because of our Veterans, we are free. Because of our Veterans, America is today and will forever be the greatest nation on Earth,” Huth said. “Please shake a Veterans hand, listen to their stories. If we don’t, then who will?”
