William Woods University Junior and 2013 OTHS Grad Alexi Cavins was recently named a Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar Athlete. Cavins is one of just 397 athletes nation-wide to be named to this prestigious list.

Criteria for the award states that the student-athlete must be nominated by her institution’s coach or Sports Information Director, and that the student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, while having achieved at least junior academic status.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized with such a talented group of teammates who perform at a high level both on and off the field,” Cavins told the Weekly.

Cavins, an infielder, majors in Elementary Education at William Woods, and has been a regular starter on the softball team since her freshman season, when she was also named to the Academic All-American Midwest Conference team. She was a four year letter-winner at OTHS, where she helped guide the Lady Panthers to three straight Regional Championships and consecutive Southwestern Conference crowns in 2011 and 2012.

Alexi is the daughter of Patty and James Cavins.
