Athlete Spotlight – Cassie Reno and Elise Smith standing out on already great Lady Panthers team

Southwestern Conference standouts Cassie Reno and Elise Smith of the Lady Panthers Volleyball team are dominating all of their competition.

The two girls are competing in all statistical categories this year in the Southwestern Conference. Senior Cassie Reno has helped her team in every aspect this year, and received All­ Tournament honors at the Edwardsville Tiger Classic Tournament where the Panthers placed second. Junior Elise Smith has also helped her team in many ways as well, helping them achieve their record, and tournament victories.

“I feel like we are playing well right now, but we need to work on being more consistent. With some hard work, I believe we can go very far in the postseason,” said Cassie.

Elise also went on to say, “Our team is very solid, and I believe we have gradually gotten better over the course of the season and will continue. My expectations are to finish high in the conference and then hopefully advance far into the State tournament.”

Cassie Reno is leading the conference in hitting percentage at an outstanding statline of .417. The national average is .097. Cassie also is also first in blocks for her team with 38 and first in kills with 125 according to Maxpreps. Reno plays middle hitter for the Lady Panthers.

Elise Smith

Elise Smith leads her team in two categories this year. The Junior is second in kills, and first in digs. Smith has a total of 114 kills, and 94 digs. The National average for these categories are 24 and 36 according to Maxpreps. Smith plays the six-rotation outsider hitter for the Lady Panthers.

Cassie has applied to several pharmacy colleges this year, and is undecided on where she wants to attend right now. Other than competing on the volleyball court, Cassie is also an outstanding student. She is apart of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Leadership Council. Not only does she exceed on the court, but also off of the court. Cassie is the daughter of Curt and Laurie Reno.

Elise has plans after high school to play Division One volleyball, and study Fashion Merchandising along with International Business. Outside of volleyball, Elise is involved with Wellness, Friends of Rachel, Spanish and Hands Club, and assists as the manager of the Boys Volleyball team. Whenever school is out for the summer, Elise continues playing volleyball for a club team. Elise is the daughter of Marc and Carma Smith.
