Book Sale Weekend among the many upcoming events at the library

By Molly Scanlan, Library Director

Book Sale Weekend is arriving fast at the Library.  Join us the weekend of September 29 and 30th for a book sale put on by the Friends of the Library. Shop from a wide collection of books, DVDs, and CDs.  We’ll have something for every age group, and nearly every subject imaginable.   Hours are Saturday from 9am-4pm & Sunday from 1-5pm.  This will be held in the Community room.

All proceeds benefit the library as they provide materials and programs that help you and your family learn, grow, and enjoy life.   Arrive early for the best selection!

Join us on the first Friday of the month, Oct. 5th, for Homeschool Afternoons!  We will provide board games, puzzles, STEM sets, craft supplies and snacks for your kids to enjoy with other homeschooled kids.  The Community Room will be open from 1 – 3 pm for students to get together and enjoy an afternoon of fun and exploration.  Registration is not required but is encouraged for supply purposes.  Go to https://ofpl.info/calendar to register.

Our second Fun and Furry will be on the THIRD Tuesday in October, Oct. 16th.  We don’t want you to miss an opportunity to read to our gentle Therapy dogs, so we are rescheduling them on a day they are available.  Fun and Furry Reading Club, generally held on the first Thursday and the second Tuesday of each month from 4-5 PM, is open to all ages.

Mark your calendar for a blood drive being held at the Library on Monday, October 8th at 3:00pm. Sponsored by the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center for a community Blood Drive.  The Blood Center works together with volunteer donors to provide a lifesaving resource to patients in need.

Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour. An identification card or Donor ID is required to donate. Potential donors must be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be at least 17 years old. Potential donors may be 16 years old and donate but must present a signed parental consent for for 16-year old donors.  Visit us online at: https://ofpl.info/events/blood-drive-0 for more information.

You can schedule an appointment by calling the Blood Center at 866-448-3253.
