QUINCY – The OTHS Boys Golf team enjoyed tremendous success during their 2016 campaign, yet saw their team season come to a heartbreaking end at the IHSA Regional last Tuesday, coming within two strokes of advancing to the Sectional.
The Panthers would come in fourth place with a team score of 337, just two behind Southwestern Conference rival Belleville East. Edwardsville would win the Regional with a 304. Host Quincy would finish in second.
Harris would finish third overall, posting an 82 on the day, one stroke ahead of Lowery. Holland tied for sixth with Collinsville senior Mason Groshans. Edwardsville’s Ben Tyrrell would take gold, shooting a 71. Belleville West senior Sam Bernosky would take second, a full 10 strokes behind Tyrrell.
The news wasn’t all bad for O’Fallon, as three seniors, Logan Harris, Chase Holland, and Logan Lowery advanced to the Sectional in Pekin to compete on Monday. Unfortunately, they were unable to replicate the same success that had propelled them all season.
Logan Lowery produced the best OTHS score of the afternoon, tying for 33rd with an 83. Fellow senior Logan Harris would fall to 46th with an 85, failing to repeat an appearance in the IHSA State Finals. Chase Holland would tie for 94th, shooting a 96.
(New Lennox) Providence Catholic would win the team competition, posting a team score of 304, three strokes better than second place Edwardsville. Quincy would also move on to the State Finals, shooting a team 315.
Normal Community’s Rob Wuetrich won the individual crown with a 71, a full three strokes better than Michael Cascino of Providence Catholic. Edwardsville Junior Ben Tyrrell would tie with teammate Tanner White for third with a 75.
