Carol Ann Hess
December 15, 1947 – May 20, 2017
Carol Ann Hess, nee Rood, age 69, passed away on May 20, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Carol was born on December 15, 1947 in East St. Louis, IL to Marjorie and Oliver Rood, who preceded her in death.
Carol worked alongside her husband at the family business, Hess Incorporated, for many years until she quit to focus on her real passion, cooking. She is the founder and former owner of Kitchen Conservatory where she enthusiastically shared her talent for cooking. Carol also volunteered with Heartlinks-Family Hospice, where she was honored in 2011 as “One Who Made a Difference.” She was an active member of the New Apostolic Church.
Carol enjoyed traveling, cooking, and being with her grandchildren. She loved Christmas and Thanksgiving, preparing elaborate meals for her family, and assembling gingerbread houses with the grandkids. She treasured her home, decorating it for all seasons, watching the birds and wildlife, and especially loved it when her grandchildren visited. The Cardinal games were always on the radio, and her home was always open to friends and family.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Harold W. Hess; her children, Lisa Ruth (Dan) of Colorado Springs, CO and Andrew Hess (Heidi) of O’Fallon, IL; 6 grandchildren, Claire, Zachary, Eleanor, Ashton, Olivia and Alexander; by her siblings, Jean Brannon, Gladys Boisseau, Harold Rood and Gayle Bell.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartlinks at Family Hospice.
