O’FALLON – The O’Fallon Police Department announced today that charges have been filed against the driver of the semi truck that caused a fatal accident on Tuesday evening at Scott-Troy Road and Highway 50.
On Thursday, the St. Clair County State’s Attorney issued a charge of Reckless Homicide (Class 3 felony) against Orlando V. Luke, 47 years old of Augusta, Georgia, for his involvement in a fatal traffic crash on November 8, 2016. Luke was the driver of a semi-truck which crashed into four vehicles in the 8600 block of East Highway 50. The driver of one of the vehicles, 67-year-old Cheryl O. Culver from Summerfield, Illinois, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.
Bond has been set at $250,000 and Luke has been remanded to the St. Clair County Jail.
The incident continues to be investigated by the O’Fallon Police Department, Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Re-construction Team, and the Metro East Crash Assistance Team.
