Committee approves ordinance regulating animals in city parks

By Martha Stoffel

O’FALLON – The Parks and Environment committee approved ordinances regulating animals in the city and parks during their meeting Monday night. The approved ordinances will appear before council October 15th for first reading.

Previous committee recommendation had further definition added for a “leash” and information for invisible/electronic/hidden fences. The ordinance was amended Monday night removing specific leash lengths.

Changes to the ordinance now specifically state dogs and cats are allowed only on the paved perimeter walking trails of the city parks, not inside the parks. They must be on leash except in the fenced dog park area of Rock Springs Rotary Park, and the owner or keeper must be with them in the dog park area.
