Cross Country teams perform well at St. Clair County Championships

The OTHS Cross Country teams home course advantage paid off on Tuesday Oct. 2 as they hosted the St. Clair County Championships at the Milburn Campus.

In the boy’s varsity race, the Panthers placed third led by Junior Braden Gaab who crossed the finish line in seventh place clocking 16:53 for 3 miles. Senior Andrew Joyce ran a time of 16:56  and placed eighth.  Other medalists were Jack Peterson (14th), Tristen Fornes (15th), Matt Ray (16th), Kolson Mendelsohn (17th), and Nico Parker (22nd). 

 The JV boys swept the first six places and won the title for their race.  Sophomore Jacob Denley claimed the individual title with a time of 17:19. Other JV medalists were Peyton Mueller (2nd), Nick Novy (3rd), Blake Westrater (4th), Eric Largent (5th), Shawn Largent (6th), Alex Tillock (9th), Zach Claxton (11th), Riley Hinton (12th), and Alex Wilhelm (13th).

The varsity girls placed third led by Kiley McElroy,who placed seventh individually.  Brianna Berres crossed the line in eighth place.  Also earning medals were: Taylor Peck (11th), Peyton Mutters (13th), Mary Kate Trelow (14th), and Krissy Sharpe (15th).

In the JV girl’s race the Lady Panthers claimed the team title. Freshman Olivia Anderson earned the top medal for O’Fallon, placing third.  Other medalists were  Abby George (7th), Catherine Gould (8th), J’Annah Adkins (9th), Sam Suchanek (13th), Faye Swanson (14th), Sophia Ryan (16th), Julia Gundlach (17th), and Caitlyn Thamke (19th). 

Up next for the Panthers and Lady Panthers is the Southwestern Conference Championships at Belleville West on Thursday October 11th at 4 pm.  Varsity races will be run first with JV races to follow.  Each race promises to be highly competitive at the individual and team levels.
