West defeats Deadmond in County Board District 15 primary

O’Fallon and Shiloh Valley Townships voted in favor of Ted Cruz (R) and Bernie Sanders (D) in the March 2016 primary election.
O’FALLON – The majority of primary election voters in O’Fallon and Shiloh Valley Townships are supporting Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz as their candidates for President of the United States.
In the 18 precincts in O’Fallon Township, Sanders defeated his challenger, Hillary Clinton, with 1,510 votes to her 1,498. In the five precincts in Shiloh Valley, Sanders beat Clinton 413 to 362.
Cruz came away with 1,799 votes in O’Fallon Township, beating rivals Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich. Trump received 1,576 votes, Kasich 771, and Rubio 410.
Cruz also won Shiloh Valley Township, receiving 445 votes. Trump scored 410 votes, Kasich 174, and Rubio 88.
Another primary election in O’Fallon Township for St. Clair County Board District 15 fell in favor of the incumbent, John West. West received 1,624 votes against opponent Bobby Deadmond Sr., who received 223. There is no currently Democrat slated to run against West in the November election.
O’Fallon Township saw 7,741 total ballots cast in the Primary Election, giving it a total voter turnout of 43 percent. 3,057 of the ballots cast were in the Democrat primary and 4,684 were in the Republican primary. Percentage wise, 17 percent of Democrat voters in O’Fallon Township cast a ballot last Tuesday, while 26 percent of Republican voters came out to the polls.
In Shiloh Valley Township, 1,922 total ballots were cast in the Primary Election, resulting in a 35 percent voter turnout. Democrat ballots accounted for 784 of the total cast, while 1,138 were cast in the Republican primary. Fourteen percent of Democrat voters came out to vote in the Primary Election, while 21 percent of total GOP voters in Shiloh Valley Township made their choices known.
