O’FALLON – Three local Boy Scouts from Troop 85 teamed up to rebuild and refurbish an old shelter on the Friendship Company Preschool playground in north O’Fallon.
The shelter was transformed into an outdoor classroom.
The project was split into three parts: Austin McDonald supervised completion of a paver floor, Jackson Smith supervised the reworking of the structure itself and Will Ray supervised the building of the kid sized picnic tables and outdoor easels. The project took eight months to complete and took a combined 300 man hours. The total cost of the project was $2,500 and was funded entirely by private donations.
Heather Hernandez, Director for the Friendship Company Preschool, indicated “this is an awesome project and a true blessing for our kids and teachers. These Boy Scouts did an awesome job and we are grateful for their hard work in making this big project happen. We will use this outdoor classroom for many years.”
The Eagle Scout project is the culmination of planning, development, budgeting, fundraising and implementation of a project for a non-profit organization. This is the last part of a long journey to achieve the Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scout of America.
