Girls Tennis gets victory on Senior Night

O’FALLON – The ladies had a very busy week of tennis this week, as they dropped their first match of the week to conference opponent Edwardsville, 2-7. Senior Captain, Grace Lindsay, was the lone winner in Singles defeating her opponent, 6-4 and 6-3.

Seniors Mackenzie Shelton, and Katie Halwachs won their Doubles match after losing their first match 0-6, they came back and won the next matches 7-6(4), and 11-9 to take the series. Head Coach Erin Thoman said, “I was very proud of our Seniors, Grace, Mackenzie and Katie for getting our two wins against Edwardsville. Even though we lost the match 2-7, that was a highlight for the Seniors because that was the first time they had beaten Edwardsville.”

“We celebrated Senior Night on Wednesday defeating Alton, and everyone played great!” Thoman said. O’Fallon honored their six Seniors: Mackenzie Shelton, Katie Halwachs, Grace Lindsay, Amanda Hair, Kami Hostetter, and Jess Wilson.

The ladies played back-to-back days, and hosted conference opponent Alton, defeating the Redbirds in a shutout, 9-0. Seniors Mackenzie Shelton, Katie Halwachs, and Grace Lindsay each defeated their opponent in Singles allowing Alton to just four points total. Junior Mady Schreiber won her matches 6-1 and 6-1. Freshman Kate Macaluso defeated her opponent 6-0, and 6-1. Miley Brunner also defeated her opponent 6-0, and 6-0.

The Panthers also went 3-0 in their Doubles matches beating their opponents by a combined score of 37-10. Brunner and Macaluso won their matches 6-1 and 7-5. Lindsay and Schreiber also got a victory winning 6-1, and 6-2. And the unstoppable duo of Shelton and Halwachs dominated their opponent winning 6-0 and 6-1.

The Lady Panthers have a busy upcoming schedule as they travel to Belleville West on Tuesday, host Alton Marquette on Thursday, and the Conference tournament will be played on Friday and Saturday hosted by Belleville West.
