A familiar sight on the schedules of Southwestern Conference teams is about to disappear after this season, and it may be the first of a few moves to forever change the landscape of the conference.
This past Spring, the athletic department at Granite City High School announced a decision to move forward with procedures to leave the Southwestern Conference, a league that the school originally joined in 1923.
The 2017-18 seasons will be the last in the conference for the Warriors as the team will play out the final school year as the school transitions into conference independent status.
