The 5K event benefitted Abby Schuhardt, a 16-year-old parishioner of Corpus Christi was was diagnosed eight years ago with cervical arteriovenous malformation (AVM). An AVM is a congenital abnormal formation and connection of veins and arteries.
In Abby’s case, the AVM is in her neck, or cervical spine. Abby recently has an aggressive fibromatosis tumor that has formed and is awaiting chemotherapy treatment. Abby’s condition has required her and her parents to travel numerous times throughout the years to New York and Arizona for specialized treatment.
Refreshments were provided and attendance prizes were awarded in the parish center at the conclusion of the race. Holiday music was also played as runners made their way down the streets of the Village of Shiloh.
