James A. Edwards

James Aubrey Edwards, age 91, of O’Fallon, Ill., born March 2, 1926 in Union Springs, Ala., died September 20, 2017 at The Colonnade, O’Fallon, Ill.

Mr. Edwards grew up in Alabama and served in the Army during World War II. As the war was drawing down, while stationed with occupation forces in Europe, he met Marleen Brey of Munich, and they married April 1, 1948 in Oberammergau, Germany. After the war he began his career as an over-the-road truck driver and worked for Roadway Transport for many years, retiring in 1989. Accumulating over 4 million miles accident-free, he was honored as the Mississippi Truck Driver of the Year in 1985, and earned numerous other safety recognitions. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, traveling the states, and visiting at the annual Edwards family reunion.

He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Addie Lee, nee Metcalf, Edwards, and brother John Edwards.

Surviving are his wife Marleen, nee Brey, Edwards; his children Joe (Maureen) Edwards of O’Fallon, and Suzanne (Stan) Broadway of Wedowee, Ala.; grandchildren Amanda (Dr. Chad) Harris, Lauren (USMC Maj. Joe) Barker, Lindsey Broadway, and Kristen (Junior) Lingerfelt; and great-grandchildren Aubrey, Everly, Colby, Caleb, and one on the way. Also surviving are brother Cecil (Frances) Edwards and sister-in-law Elizabeth Edwards.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2017, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, O’Fallon, Ill.

Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at  11:30 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2017 at the church, with Msgr. William Hitpas presiding, followed by a luncheon. Burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
