Lady Panthers show season strides at Southern IL Duals

The Lady Panthers lost to Belleville East 4-5. Mady Schreiber, Miley Brunner, and Grace Lindsay all won their Singles matches. Mackenzie Shelton and Katie Halwachs won their doubles match in three matches. Scoring 3-6, 6-4, and 10-5 to take the series.

O’Fallon would then face Mascoutah, and came out on top winning 9-0. Each girl from O’Fallon won their Singles match. This includes, Mackenzie Shelton, Katie Halwachs, Mady Schreiber, Miley Brunner, Kate Macaluso and Grace Lindsay. The girls (as a team) were only scored on nine times in Singles matches.

The ladies would also go undefeated in their Doubles matches, going 3-0 for the day. Brunner and Macaluso, Lindsay and Schreiber, Shelton and Halwachs all won each of their matches, to help the team win overall 9-0.

O’Fallon would then compete in the Southern Illinois Duals this past Friday and Saturday. The ladies would end up with a 3-1 record in the tournament. Defeating Normal U-High, Triad, and Althoff. Coach Erin Thoman said, “The girls had an awesome weekend and played great! They worked together as a team. We have depth throughout the lineup, and we were able to move players between singles and doubles because this tournament we couldn’t double back. Everyone played well at the position they were asked to play.”

Senior Captain Katie Halwachs, Miley Brunner, and Kate Macaluso each won their singles matches against Normal U-High. Senior Amanda Hair, and Junior Alisha Lester would then also dominate their opponent in Doubles, outscoring their opponent 12-2. The ladies went on to beat Normal U-High by a score of 5-2.

The girls would then face Triad, beating them 6-1. Mady Schreiber, Grace Lindsay, and Abby Byrnside, all outscored their opponents 36-10. The Lady Panthers would also go on to sweep every Doubles match on the day. Freshman, Miley Brunner, and Kate Macaluso won both of their sets 6-3, and 6-0. Senior Captain, Mackenzie Shelton and Sophomore, Emiley Fritz, also beat their opponents 6-1, and 6-2. Following suit, Amanda Hair, and Alisha Lester\ would also go on to win their sets, beating Triad 6-3 and 6-4.

The ladies would then finish the day beating Althoff 4-3. Freshman Miley Brunner, and Kate Macaluso stood on the winning side after they both beat their opponents by allowing just five points each. Senior Captain, Grace Lindsay, and Junior, Mady Schreiber would go on to win the first Doubles match of the day against Althoff, winning 6-2 and 6-4. Amanda Hair, and Alisha Luster would finish of the day in a highly competitive match against Althoff, winning the first set just 7-5 and the second set 6-4.

“We have a big week of play coming up. We play Edwardsville this tuesday, Alton at home for Senior Night Wednesday, and at Althoff on Thursday.” said Coach Thoman.
