tennis-resizedThe Lady Panthers finished second overall at Sectionals and advanced four players to State, which starts on Thursday in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.

The ladies finished second with 23 points, only trailing Edwardsville by 10 points.

“The sectional was loaded with all the Southwestern Conference teams, Chatham Glenwood and Springfield. We knew coming in that it would be a battle with Edwardsville,” Coach Erin Thoman said.

The ladies and Coach Thoman were very pleased with their performances, Coach Thoman said, “Advancing three entries and coming in second in the Sectional behind Edwardsville is something we couldn’t even imagine.”

Seniors Mackenzie Shelton, and Katie Halwachs placed second and third in Singles and will advance to the State tournament.

Freshman duo, Miley Brunner, and Kate Macaluso finished in fourth place in Doubles and will also advance to the State tournament.

Coach Thoman also wanted to mention that Juniors Mady Schreiber, and Abbey Byrnside played an exceptionally hard fought match against Edwardsville. Due to Senior Grace Lindsay being injured, Byrnside had to step up as her replacement. Coach Thoman said, “Abbey stepped up and played beyond our expectations.”

Coach Thoman said, “It was an awesome weekend, and I’m so proud of all the girls. We are looking forward to playing at State in Chicago!”
