tennis-resizedThe O’Fallon lady tennis team advanced four girls to the State tournament this past Saturday. Katie Halwachs, Mackenzie Shelton, Miley Brunner, and Kate Macaluso all participated.

The ladies competed in the Class 2A State tournament and Coach Erin Thoman said, “Being in Class 2A was tough competition.”

Halwachs and Shelton were competing in singles, while Brunner and Macaluso were competing in Doubles.

Halwachs won her first match against Normal Community 6-2, and 7-5, before facing Naperville Central in the second round. Coach Thoman said, “We were very happy that Katie was able to get a win in the first round.” Shelton was defeated after a hard-fought set against Highland Park and Palatine.

Doubles teammates, Brunner and Macaluso, lost in the first round to Chicago (Whitney Young) 6-3, and 6-2. The ladies would then fall in the consolation bracket to Naperville.

Despite not medaling at the State tournament, it was a memorable season for the ladies and they have much to look forward to.

“I am very proud of the girls that the girls made it to State! They worked hard this season and making it to State was a big accomplishment,” said Coach Thoman.
