Lady tennis team shows dominance at Southwestern Conference tourney

tennis-resizedThe O’Fallon Lady Panthers tennis team continues its dominant season, heading full steam ahead to the post-season. The team competed in the Southwestern Conference Tournament, where they tied for second overall.

Before the weekend tournament, the O’Fallon Lady Panthers tennis team traveled to Belleville West in a conference matchup on Tuesday. The ladies defeated the Maroons 9-0, winning in all Singles and Doubles matches.

Mackenzie Shelton, Katie Halwachs, Mady Schreiber, Miley Brunner, Kate Macaluso, and Abbey Byrnside all earned victories in their Singles matches. The ladies also went 3-0 in their doubles matches.

On Thursday, the ladies hosted Alton Marquette, and went on to shut them out 9-0. The ladies put on a dominant performance in their Singles and Doubles. In singles, the ladies outscored the Explorers 72-5.

The ladies had a very busy week, and their schedule continued to be full for the weekend. The Varsity girls competed in the Southwestern Conference Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The eight teams from the SWC competing in the tournament were O’Fallon, Edwardsville, Belleville East, Belleville West, Alton, Collinsville, Granite City, and East St. Louis.

The ladies finished tied for second overall with 59 points, out of eight teams total.

In Doubles matches, Mackenzie Shelton and Katie Halwachs finished in second place, along with Mady Schreiber and Abby Byrnside. Miley Brunner and Kate Macaluso finished in third place.

In Singles matches, Mady Schreiber, Miley Brunner, and Kate Macaluso finished in second place overall. Mackenzie Shelton, Katie Halwachs, and Abbey Byrnside came in third place overall to help their team finish in second place overall.
