Local Scouts create Birthday Bags for less fortunate kids

For the O’Fallon Weekly

O’FALLON – Eight Cub Scout Wolves from Pack 49 in O’Fallon spent a recent Saturday morning putting together 25 birthday party bags for children in the community. The kits were then donated to our local food pantry.
The party kits were complete with cake mix, icing, candles, tissue paper, cards, play-doh, crayons and toys. About half of the funds for the materials was donated to our den from family and friends, and the rest was paid for by our very supportive pack. The goal was to help some little boys and girls in the community get to enjoy a really fun birthday party.
The Wolves talked about how grateful they are for what they have and about the importance of service and giving to others. Scouts stated that they are glad kids their age won’t have a birthday without a cake and without presents, something that they had not really thought about.
The Wolves felt “happy, glad, generous and helpful to donate these birthday bags, and their time, to boys and girls that they may know.
The Pack also donated a sizable amount of food to the pantry. They thought this especially important since some Scouting for Food events were cancelled this year.
