Tell us more about your business – what products and services do you offer?
Olson Orthodontics offers beautiful smiles for the whole family! I am a dentist with advanced specialty training to be able to provide only orthodontic care. I treat hundreds of cases per year that range from mild cases to severe surgical corrections. Types of braces I use are metal, self ligating, clear, and removable invisible braces.
Children should be initially evaluated and placed on observation at the age of seven years old. This will allow me to monitor growth and development. If there are problems with eruption or the bite, early treatment can prevent or lessen the need of long, difficult treatments as an adolescent.
Adults (age 18 or older) are the fastest growing population in the practice. There is never an age when you are too old to get a beautiful smile! With the ability to have clear brackets or removable aligners, braces are much more socially acceptable for adults than in years past. Bite issues and jaw issues like pain or popping can be relieved with the use of orthodontics. Grinding or clinching issues can be relieved with the use of night guards and splints which we custom make right in our office.
What motivated you to start your own business?
After completing 11 years post high school education, graduating Valedictorian out of my dental school class, and attending one of the nation’s top residency programs, I knew that my ability to treat patients would be superior. I started out as an associate in another practice, but after a couple years grew anxious to be able to treat patients and staff in the manner that I felt was best.
As a woman and a mom, I feel that I bring a fresh and different perspective to my career field. I strive to treat my patients, their families, and my staff with the highest respect and compassion.
Living in and supporting the local community is also important. I knew that unless I was able to leave my previous location and go out to purchase my own practice, I all of these aspects of my career would be out of my control.
My desire is to know and build lasting relationships with my patients and their families. Patients always comment to my staff and I that they appreciate the customer service and the one on one treatment with the doctor. At Olson Orthodontics you are never just a number!
My husband was born and raised here in O’Fallon, and it is a blessing to continue to raise our family in O’Fallon. I enjoy interacting and supporting my local community on a daily basis.
Do you have any suggestions for people interested in opening their own business?
Being a business owner along with all the other demands of life can seem daunting at times. I was blessed to connect with a couple key professionals (lawyer, CFP/CPA, and bank) along with the support of the retiring doctor from the practice, that helped make the transition from associate to owner as painless as possible. Using their knowledge, along with the dedication of time that my husband has running the financial aspects of the practice, has allowed this practice to thrive and grow each year since the purchase.
My staff is amazing and I love employing compassionate, experienced, and service driven individuals. It has been worth it ten times over to own my own practice verse being under the direction of someone else. Finding a good core of people you can trust is essential to making a business successful. You will never know ALL the answers, so surround yourself with a support system that is there to help every step of the way!
Do you have any upcoming events you’d like to share with our readers?
We are always accepting new smiles and I love when happy patients and families refer new families! We have several in-house promotions that are always present, including family discounts, a referral program, incentives and monthly contests for current patients to win prizes through compliance and interaction with the office on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.
We are very active outside the office and you’ll see us running local races, having information tables set up at community events, and participating in area fundraisers.
