Matthew Patrick Sharpe (1975-2017)

Matthew Patrick Sharpe
January 29, 1975 – January 2, 2017

sharpe-resizedIt was a beautiful sunny day in Hawaii when Matt Sharpe died. Some might say he was on the beach with his soul mate Kris, sipping margaritas and watching orcas jump and play in the waves. It was a peaceful passing, and he laughed softly as he gently closed his eyes, the sun glowing on his skin and the wind tickling his toes. As Matt died, his essence left his body and he energetically wrapped all his love around Kris and each of their children. He will always be with them, heart and soul. It is the perfect “to be continued” ending of our favorite love story.

Matthew Patrick Sharpe, 41, of Breese, Ill.,  died January 2, 2017, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., while waiting for a full body transplant. Now carrying his spirit are his wife Kris Fulkerson and their five children, Lyric, 16, Hope, 14, Ethan, 14, Merit, 11, and Aanya, 10. Also anxiously looking for signs of being haunted are his dad, Gregg Sharpe (a former Navy Corpsman) and his bonus mom Terri Berri; his doting mom Kathy Sharpe; his annoying sister Becky Berry and brother-in-law DR; his parents-in-law Phil and Pat Fulkerson, who will always remember Matt as they traipse through Menards; self-appointed favorite sister-in-law Maegan Korte and brother-in-law Matt; and the fellow introvert sister-in-law Karla Voss and brother-in-law Jeff; and brother-in-law Mike Fulkerson and sister-in-law Jen, whom he enjoyed talking to and visiting. Matt has several nieces and nephews who mostly enjoyed his wacky sense of humor and practical jokes. Matt has requested that they continue to plague their parents with inopportune fart jokes while in public. Matt also will be missed by his Grandma Lois Sharpe, keeping it sassy in Seattle, and his loving Nana and Papa in Virginia, as well as a whole lot of other relative whom he loved.

The family politely requests that no flowers, plants or other gifts be sent; however, for those inclined to do so, flowers may be sent in Matt’s honor to a hospital or nursing home where they can be most enjoyed. Otherwise, instead of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to “Miracle for Matt” or “Coping 4 Life.”

Per Matt’s wishes of doing whatever is cheapest, he was cremated.

A celebration of all things Matt Sharpe will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 pm, Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Shake It Up Fitness, 12705 Drive In Road, Breese, Ill. Matt created a soundtrack for the celebration and specifically requested that everyone wear neon colors or very loud Hawaiian shirts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O’Fallon, Illinois.
