Merinda Josephine Hornal, age 92, of Troy, Ill., born September 13, 1924 in New Haven, Connecticut, the youngest of eight, passed away October 7, 2016 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Illinois.
Merinda grew up in Connecticut, met her future husband David at a USO Dance. As a young bride, she moved to Collinsville where they raised their five children, and later moved to Troy. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed cooking for her family. She had spent many hours at the gym at Leisure World, exercising and maintaining her health. She was a parishioner at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy.
She was preceded in death by her husband David Warren Hornal, whom she married June 18, 1945, and passed away November 14, 1987; her son David “Skip” Hornal; her parents Domenico and Carolina, nee Sicignano, Tamaro; her seven siblings, and her son-in-law Raymond Barker.
Surviving are her children Carol Boone, of O’Fallon; Douglas (Elaine) Hornal of Bellingham, Wash., Tamara Barker of Hamel, Ill., and Lisa (Michael) Janco of Alligator Point, Fla.; her daughter-in-law Beverly Hornal of Highland, Calif.; her 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial took place at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, with Rev. Alan Hunter presiding. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
