Michael Erin Fichter
September 23, 1938 – May 1, 2017
Michael Fichter, 78, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at his home. He was born on September 23, 1938 in East St. Louis, Illinois the son of Charles and Doyne (Wirth) Fichter, who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage on November 2, 1963 in Granite City, Illinois to Marjorie Misselhorn, who survives of the home.
He was a graduate of Belleville High School in Belleville, Illinois; Southern Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice; University of Chicago with a Master’s Degree in Education and Mississippi State University with a PhD in Criminal Justice. He was employed for many years as a Juvenile Corrections Counselor and was then employed by Southeast Missouri State University as a Professor for 20 years.
Michael enjoyed traveling, especially in the Eastern Part of Europe. Seeing the different cultures and exploring history in countries including but not limited to: Croatia, Germany, and Bulgaria.
His also survived by two sons: Michael Kevin (Dora) Fichter of Jefferson City and Mark Fichter of Erie, Colorado; one daughter: Kristine Juergens of Cody, Wyoming; one sister: Sandra Britt of O’Fallon, Illinois and six grandchildren: Emma Fichter, Anna Fichter, Erica Goins, David Juergens, Allison Fichter, and Aaron Fichter. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter: Alexandra Fichter and two brothers: Charles Fichter and Richard Fichter.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with Rev. Gerald Scheperle officiating. Inurnment with full military honors will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Schubert. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
