Norman R. Hangsleben
February 22, 1937 – December 9, 2016
Norman grew up in a large family in O’Fallon. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and served as a fire direction controller, stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. A carpenter by trade, he was a member of Carpenters Local 480, Freeburg. Norman enjoyed fixing up old cars, especially Cadillacs, and spending time in Keyesport at the clubhouse.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Stella, nee Wiemann, Hangsleben; his brothers Wesley, Harold, Lester, and Fred; and sisters Virginia Scheibel-Kramer and Evelyn Bertram.
Surviving are his sons Jeffrey Hangsleben of O’Fallon; Michael Hangsleben of Minnesosta; step-daughter Kristine Gibbons of Belleville; grandchildren Trent Gibbons, Nathanial Hangsleben, Jamie Gibbons, and Stephanie Williams; sisters Blanche Scheibel of O’Fallon, Edith Bland of O’Fallon, and Marlene Kabureck of Lebanon; and his former wife and friend Sandra Hangsleben.

The family received friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Monday, December 12, 2016 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
The funeral took place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Christy Eckert officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Shiloh Valley Township Cemetery, Shiloh, Illinois.
