O’FALLON – The local Habitat for Humanity chapter has started its second home in O’Fallon at 122 Carson Drive. A ground blessing and ground breaking ceremony was held on April 2.

The O’Fallon chapter is one of seven chapters that make up the Lewis and Clark Habitat for Humanity Affiliate, headquartered in Collinsville.  The Affiliate has built and manages the mortgages of over 40 homes in the Metro East.

The selected partner family for the new home is Ms. Cherri Crankfield, and her three children, ages twelve, eight, and six.  Ms. Crankfield is a working mom and she has committed to providing 200 hundred hours of “sweat equity” toward her new home, as well as a modest down payment and learning how to take care of the home.

The O’Fallon Habitat chapter has teamed with the three O’Fallon area Rotary Clubs to help build this home and another home in 2017.  The Rotary Clubs are providing several hundred hours of volunteer labor and special skills where needed.

The Rotary Clubs are also providing significant help to raise funds for the coming builds. The clubs have teamed with Jack Schmitt Chevrolet to hold a truck raffle for a 2016 Silverado. The drawing will take place on October 29. Anyone interested in raffle tickets can contact the Rotary Clubs or O’Fallon Area Habitat for Humanity.

The O’Fallon Habitat chapter along with the O’Fallon Rotary Club envision the revitalization of neighborhood along Carson Drive.  By joining forces the organizations hope to have a significant impact on our community while providing safe, affordable housing for hardworking low income families.  The organizations hope to build up to six new homes in the area in this effort.
