O’FALLON – Around 8:56 a.m. on Thursday morning, the O’Fallon, Illinois Police Department received a report of two motor vehicle burglaries which occurred at the O’Fallon YMCA, 284 N. Seven Hills Rd. During the initial investigation, video surveillance footage from the YMCA was obtained which revealed the suspect vehicle to be a grey, Chrysler Town and Country mini-van occupied by two males. The registration plate was also captured on video surveillance and all information was disseminated to area police agencies via the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network (ISPERN). It was soon determined this registration plate was stolen from an additional victim’s vehicle on a neighboring business parking lot.
Shortly thereafter, Belleville Police Units located the suspect van on the parking lot of the Belleville East YMCA, 2627 Carlyle Avenue. A joint surveillance effort of the suspect vehicle was established between multiple police agencies. During the surveillance, one suspect fled on foot and was captured on the parking lot of Southwestern Illinois College. The other suspect was involved in a brief vehicle pursuit which ended near the Belleville East High School campus. Belleville East High School had been put on lockdown this morning.
