O’Fallon Public Works approves land deal for Simmons Road project

O’FALLON – The O’Fallon City Council’s Public Works committee approved a land acquisition services agreement with Lochmueller Group related to the Simmons Road reconstruction project at their meeting on Monday, October 22. The agreement has been sent to full council for approval.

A right-of-way and easement acquisition is needed for the project on Simmons Road between Milburn School Road and Porter Road. The agreement with Lochmueller Group is for professional services and recording fees associated with the land acquisition.

The reconstruction will add curbs and gutters to Simmons, add a left turn lane into the Parcs of Arbor Green subdivision and complete the sidewalk along the west side of Simmons to the roundabout at Milburn School Road. Public Works Director Jeff Taylor estimates the project to begin in the summer of 2019, and will be done in two phases.

The committee also approved a resolution to support the use of Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds for in-house maintenance of streets and highways. The Illinois Department of Transportation requires council pass a resolution to use the funds for maintenance purposes. The $50,296 approved by the resolution will be used for city street patches and road salt.
