O’Fallon Woman’s Club honors airman at monthly flag ceremony

O’FALLON – The O’Fallon Woman’s Club held their monthly Memorial Corner Observance on Saturday. This month, the club honored the service and sacrifice of A1C Zachary Ryan Cuddeback, United States Air Force.

Airman 1st Class Zachary (Zac) Ryan Cuddeback’s life was ended abruptly on March 2, 2011 while serving his nation in the Republic of Germany.  Zac was shot and killed in the line of duty by an Islamic Terrorist.

Zac was born at Scott AFB, IL.He joined the United States Air Force in 2009; attended basic training at Lackland AFB, TX and became a Vehicle Operator at the 364th Training Squadron, Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Upon graduation in January 2010, Zac was promoted to Airman First Class and assigned to home town recruiting in Charlottesville, VA. He was then assigned to the 86th Vehicle Readiness Squadron in March of 2010.

A1C Cuddeback was laid to rest with full military honors in O’Fallon on March 12, 2011 next to his grandfather, Cecil O. Loyet.

The flag raising was handled by EK & Moye Elementary Girl Scouts Troops #24 led by Gwen Hites, #164 led by Rosemarie Simpson, #1123 led by Pam Owens, and #379 led by Chris Minar. The National Anthem was sung by Kat Rubish.

The club will hold their next Flag Ceremony on November 6 to honor the service and sacrifice of Alfred Spargo, United States Army, World War 1.
