The O’Fallon Outlaws Ladies Select Lacrosse Team only played one third of their scheduled games for the past week, but that didn’t stop them from adding a solid win to their already impressive resume.
The Outlaws hosted Northwest High and posted a healthy 4-1 win over the familiar foe. O’Fallon defeated Northwest 15-0 in their first meeting of the year, but it was evident early on that this would be no repeat of the blowout.
One of the reasons for the drastic change in scoring could have been the suffocating heat, which held over most of the region throughout the weekend. Both teams had to deal with temperatures in the 90’s with a heat index near 100, and that played a part in slowing down a traditionally fast-paced Outlaw offense.
The defense did its part in holding the opposition to a singular goal, while the offense had just enough firepower on a day where goals were few and far between. It was the last game in July before the Outlaws travel to Naperville, Illinois for the Indian Prairie Showdown, a tournament spanning three days.
The Outlaws will compete in a pair of games on Friday against Team Total Michigan Select Lacrosse and the Cincinnati Royals and on Saturday against the Bandits Select Lacrosse and Michigan Elite Blue Select before wrapping up tournament competition on Sunday. Game times are at 9 a.m. and noon for both days before bracket play starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
O’Fallon was scheduled to face off with St. Louis Rush Select Lacrosse on Tuesday, but the game was cancelled due to the excessive heat. The first game of the scheduled double header against the Scarlet Hawks on Saturday was also called before it began, limiting the week’s competition to one tune-up contest before the team makes the trip to the north end of the state.
The Outlaws have a pair of practices at 6 p.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday of this week, and then will suit up to face the Indian Prairie tournament competition. O’Fallon’s summer schedule will end on Saturday, August 6 with a double header against the Scarlet Hawks and Northwest High. Both games will be played at the O’Fallon Public Safety Field off of Seven Hills Road.
