OTHS hosted the Lancers for their last conference meet of 2016, and the Blue and Gold got mixed results.
The Panther Girls finished out the 1st semester in record-setting fashion, rolling a team-record 1133 game in contest #1, jumping out to a dominant start over their Southwestern Conference rivals.
Natalie Heltne rolled a 238 matched by teammate Hayleigh Williams, but O’Fallon’s effort was paced by sophomore Lauren Tomaszewski’s 267 game. Freshman Mary Orf also contributed a 211.
Heltne would finish the day with a team-high 660 series to lead O’Fallon to a 32-8 win.
“To have both our Varsity and JV teams undefeated at this point in the season is something special that we don’t take for granted,” Girls Head Coach Garrett Spencer said. “But there is a long way to go and we have to keep grinding to stay successful.”
The OTHS Boys would jump out to an early 126 pin lead over the Lancer after the first game, but East would storm back in games 2 and 3 behind the efforts of Kurtis Murphy.
Murphy carried the Lancers with a 771 series to help lead East to a 24.5-15.5 win, handing O’Fallon its second straight loss, despite strong showings in both contests.
Junior Mark Hoerner led the O’Fallon boys with a 693 series, followed by senior Andrew Orf’s 679.
“I’m not discouraged about the losses at all,” Boys Head Coach Mike Imes told the Weekly. “All we can do is work on a few fundamental things and keep moving forward through the rest of the season.”
Boys JV also suffered their first loss of the season, but the team is a heathy 6-1 heading into the New Year.
“We are still one of the leaders in the conference, and we will work hard to stay there,” Imes added.
