BELLEVILLE – The O’Fallon Township High School Boys Bowling Team took place in one final tune up before Thursday’s start to Southwestern Conference play, winning an unofficial quad meet in Belleville against Belleville East, Belleville West, and Freeburg in both Varsity and JV Divisions.
Official records were not kept for the meet.
The Panthers now have the advantage of playing in two of the SWC’s road venues before conference play starts, as OTHS has bowled in Collinsville’s Camelot Bowl as well as Belleville’s Bel-Air Bowl. The Panthers will bowl once more in the regular season at Camelot and twice more at Bel-Air.
One of those times in Belleville will take place on Thursday, when the Panthers open up their Southwestern Conference slate against the rival Lancers of Belleville East.
Head Coach Mike Imes hopes this friendly quad performance is indicative of collective team know-how when it comes to winning in an alley that can be tough to read. Bel-Air plays much differently than O’Fallon’s home St. Clair Bowl, so the extra practice and subsequent success should bode well for the rest of the season.
“It’s always good to get some games in at an alley before you have to compete there,” Imes said. “That’s why practice is so valuable, and when you can get reps on the road, it’s that much better.”
The boys will then pack their equipment and head north to compete with host Plainfield North on Saturday, marking the first of three scheduled weekend trips north. The Panthers will also travel to Springfield and Rockford later in the season to compete in non-conference tournaments.
Following the trip the Panthers will again hit the lanes at Camelot for a road match up with the Collinsville Kahoks on Tuesday. OTHS does not have a home meet until the following Tuesday when the Blue and Gold play host to the Maroons of Belleville West.
