Panther Gold takes consolation crown

baseball generic   The O’Fallon Gold Summer Baseball Team wrapped up the competition slate of their summer schedule this past week with the Saint Louis Amateur Baseball Association Playoffs played at Blazer Field in O’Fallon. The Panthers rolled through their bracket en route to the Consolation Championship.

The Panthers opened up the Consolation part of the tournament with some Panther on Panther crime, a 5-1 win over O’Fallon Blue which put Gold into the first of three straight match ups against the South-West Stars, who advanced by knocking off Granite City 7-2.

Panther Gold would take what would turn out to be the first of three consecutive match ups with the Stars by a score of 5-2 in yet another summer contest controlled by Panther pitching. O’Fallon would then drop the second contest 6-2, which allowed the Stars to take home-field advantage for the Consolation championship game.

O’Fallon would not roll over, however, and used their again stellar pitching to their advantage in capturing a 6-1 consolation clinching win. Mascoutah captured the 17U title with a 2-1 series win over the St. Louis Tigers, taking the final two contests to wrap up the crown.

O’Fallon Gold ended their summer SLABA schedule with an impressive team earned run average of 2.64, while managing to score just over 4 runs a contest. The Panthers finished the regular season with an 8-5 record and a +12 run differential, meaning they scored 12 more runs than they allowed over the course of their schedule.

O’Fallon Blue ended their summer SLABA campaign with a record of 3 wins, 8 losses, and 1 tie, holding a -45 run differential. Panther Blue pitching struggled for most of the summer, posting a lofty 5.88 ERA while managing just under three and a half runs a game.

Panther Gold finished 3rd in the 17U South Division, behind Mascoutah and Freeburg, respectively. Panther Blue came in at 5th place, just a half game ahead of last place Waterloo.

O’Fallon baseball concluded their summer schedule with their 100 Inning Game, played on Monday July 25th. Up next is the SLABA All-Star Game on Sunday the 31st.
