Panthers Softball drops tight game to Mt. Vernon

O’FALLON – The dust kicked up a stir during the strong match up between the Lady Panthers softball team and the Lady Rams of Mt. Vernon Township High School. Play had to be halted several times to let the wind die down enough for even the umpires to have visibility behind the plate. Both teams struggled to adapt on defense and the double-digit score for both teams reflected the battle.

In the top of the second inning, O’Fallon’s starting pitcher struggled against a heavy-hitting Mt. Vernon lineup. After two over-the-fence homers, each bringing in an RBI, Coach Lauren Popov-Munez made the call to switch up the pitching mound, trading freshman Hayleigh Juenger for junior Katie Moore. Moore closed out the inning and gave O’Fallon a chance to redeem itself.
