Richard H. L. “Skipper” Medder, 81, of O’Fallon, Ill. born January 5, 1935 in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away on August 24, 2016 at his residence.

Skipper, as he was known to those closest to him, was a proud member of the Army National Guard. He began his professional career as a manager for W.T. Grants. He then took a position with Van’s Discount as a District Manager. Mr. Medder later worked for Sears Roebuck as an audiologist and then transitioned to All State Insurance in Granite City, Ill. One to always stay busy, Skipper drove a school bus for many years for the Illinois Central School Bus company. Of all his loves in life, time spent with his grandson Jake was one of his greatest joys.

Mr. Medder was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Dolly, Boehm Medder; and a sister, Gloria.

He is survived by his son, Matthew Medder of Belleville, Ill. and a grandson, Jacob Medder of Belleville, Ill.

Visitation was held on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, 3412 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville, Ill. 62223.

Funeral services were held at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home with Pastor Wilson Wickiser officiating.

Burial was held be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill.
