O’FALLON- An emergency special meeting of the O’Fallon City Council was held Monday night for the approval of an amendment to Chapter 37 of the O’Fallon Code of Ordinances, granting additional authority to the Mayor in the event of an emergency declaration related to COVID-19.
Under state law and city ordinance, the mayor can declare an emergency at any time by proclamation. Mayor Herb Roach signed a declaration of a local emergency related to COVID-19 on March 19, 2020. Per the city’s website, “the declaration of emergency was under the recommendation of St. Clair County to help improve the City’s response to COVID-19 and ensure that O’Fallon is eligible to recover some costs associated with combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
