braswell-resizedRobert Floyd Braswell, Sr., MSgt, USAF (retired) age 83, of O’Fallon, born August 2, 1933, in Charlotte, N.C., the youngest of 11 children, passed away Saturday night, January 7, 2017, at home, surrounded by his family.

Robert grew up in Charleston, S.C., and enlisted in the Air Force as a young man. He was assigned to Scott AFB, where he met his future bride. After several military transfers, the Braswells settled back in O’Fallon, where Bob retired from the Air Force in 1972. He continued his work as a Systems Analyst with civil service until 1992.

Bob was an active parishioner at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was involved in city government, serving as a dedicated alderman for the City of O’Fallon for several years. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with Knights of Columbus Council 4239, and life member of VFW and past Commander of American Legion Post 137. He was a volunteer coach for many of his boys’ various sports teams.

He was preceded in death by his father Grover Braswell, mother Cleva, nee Lewis, Braswell Billings, and step-father Rufus Billings; infant son Gregory; infant grandson Benjamin Clubb; and ten siblings.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Edna, nee Weissert, Braswell, whom he married February 1, 1964 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville; his seven children Karen (Daniel) Clubb, Robert F. (Stephanie, nee Kunz) Braswell, Jr., Christopher (Daun) Braswell, Teresa Blankenship, Brian (Sara) Braswell, David (Lori) Braswell, and Mark Braswell; 15 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation took place from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 1411 Cross St., Shiloh; and from 9:00 – 9:45 am, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the church.

Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at the church, with Rev. James Deiters presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairview Heights, Ill.
