O’FALLON – Guests were able to enjoy food from more than 20 different local restaurants at the Third Annual St. Clair County Extension Taste of the Area event last Saturday.
The event, which is a fundraiser for the St. Clair County Extension and Education Foundation, raises money to support the various 4-H clubs, as well as the Master Gardener and Master Naturalist programs.
The Taste of the Area was originally organized as a way to try a different kind of fundraiser.
“We were looking for a different kind of fundraiser for the foundation and this just kind of came available. We thought it would be something fun and it would be good for the community. It helps market the individual restaurants as well as get the local community members out and supporting us. Every year it just keeps growing and growing,” said Carolyn Sitzes, a St. Clair County Extension & Education Foundation board member.
The Extension is extremely thankful for the support they receive each year from local restaurants wanting to set up booths.
“There has been lots of good support from the community and restaurants. We have some new ones and some returning. We hope its been a good venue for them and believe they’ve been very satisfied. We really appreciate their coming out to support us,” said Pamela Jacobs with the Extension.
Some of the restaurants that were at the Taste of the Area were Texas Roadhouse, Cold Stone Creamery, Joe’s Crab Shack, The Egg and I, Firehouse Subs, Sweet Katie Bee’s, Panda Express, McAlister’s Deli, Olive Garden, Chili’s, the Happy Bakery, Chick-Fil-A, and Tastefully Simple.
