Bank of O’Fallon Shootout serves as showcase for top high school programs

O’FALLON – The Panther Dome was packed with basketball fans this past weekend watching some of the best in high school hoops from around Illinois at the fifth annual Bank of O’Fallon Shootout. 

The action began on Friday evening when Alton took on Springfield Southeast. Terrion Murdix led Springfield Southeast over the Redbirds, 64-58.

Game two featured the O’Fallon Panthers against the Belleville West Maroons. 

The game was tight and competitive, but West led O’Fallon 35-28 at the half. 

After three quarters Belleville West continued to lead O’Fallon 46-37. However, O’Fallon’s Drew Tebbe led all scorers with four 3-pointers at the end of the third. 

The Panthers rallied back but ultimately fell short, losing 55-49 to Belleville West.

The final game on Friday evening featured the Collinsville Kahoks against Springfield Lanphier. Collinsville led the game, ultimately winning 76-59.

Saturday, February 2, featured a number of games  basktetball fans were clamoring to see.

The first game featured CBC against Normal West.  CBC took a small lead before heading into the second half and retained it through the third and fourth quarters. CBC defeated Normal West by a score of 61-50.

Game five of the Shootout was nicknamed the Battle of Scott-Troy Road, when the O’Fallon Panthers took on the Triad Knights. At the end of the first half, the Panthers led Triad 26-21. 

The two teams were fairly evenly matched, but it was O’Fallon that pulled ahead when it counted, winning game five by a score of 37-35. Shaun Riley II was named the Northwestern Mutual MVP for the game. 

“This win gives us some big momentum. We’re just looking forward to playoff time,” Riley told a student reporter for OTHSToday.com in a post-game interview.

Game six featured Whitney Young versus Iowa City West. Whitney Young came out to an early lead and led 24-17 at the half. By the end of the game, Iowa City West would put up some more points, but not enough to defeat Whitney Young. Whitney Young won 58-42.

The final game of the Shootout featured the Belleville West Maroons against Simeon. The game was extremely tight, with West only leading 26-25 at the half. The teams would go into overtime, tied at 45. Ultimately it was West who pulled off the 55-54 OT win.

Bank of O’Fallon Shootout takes place Saturday

The Bank of O’Fallon Shootout, one of the biggest annual events at O’Fallon Township High School, takes place on Saturday. Do you want to see some big time basketball? Do you like cheering on your O’Fallon Panthers? Then the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout is the place to be.

Some of the big matchups include the defending state champion and number nine ranked team in the state Althoff Crusaders facing the number two ranked team in the state Evanston Wildkits. This game brings a lot of star players to the court including Mr. Basketball candidate Jordan Goodwin, who is headed to Saint Louis University after high school is over. Evanston brings their Mr. Basketball candidate Nojel Eastern, who will be heading to Purdue after high school.

The Shootout is will also feature some other big ranked teams from around the state. For example, Bolingbrook comes into the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout undefeated and the new number one ranked team in Class 4A. Morgan Park also comes in as the number one ranked team in Class 3A. Bloomington is ranked third in Class 3A.

This is also a chance to see your O’Fallon Panthers if you haven’t made it to a game this season. Coach Brian Muniz and the Panthers will take on Vianney in what should be a highly contested match. Seniors Alex Orr, Daron Thomas, and Steven Sharp along with juniors Jalen Hodge and Burke Watts are players to watch for in this game.

The schedule looks like this:

  • The O’Fallon Panthers kick off the shootout when they take on Vianney at 10:30 a.m.
  • Starting at noon, Bloomington will take on Chicago Marian Catholic.
  • Whitfield School-St. Louis takes on Peoria Manual at 1:30 p.m.
  • At 4:15 p.m., Champaign Central takes on Elgin Larkin.
  • Belleville East squares off against Bolingbrook at 5:45 p.m.
  • Webster Groves vs. Chicago Morgan Park begins at 7:15 p.m.
  • Althoff vs. Evanston will wrap up the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout at 8:45 p.m.

Doors will open at 9:45 a.m. for first session games, while doors will open at 3:45 p.m. for the second session. Tickets are still available, but are limited. Bank of O’Fallon Shootout takes place Saturday

ofallon basketballThis Saturday the Panther Dome seats will be filled for highly anticipated Bank of O’Fallon Shootout basketball event.
The Shootout first took place last year and was highlighted by a double-overtime finish between Althoff and Westchester St. Joseph who would go on to face off against each other in the Class 3A state championship.
This year’s Shootout will be split into two action packed sessions. Teams for this year include Althoff, CBC, Centralia, Columbia, DeKalb, Hazelwood Central, Hinsdale South, Kenwood Academy, Morgan Park, Nashville, OTHS, Peoria Richwoods, St. Joseph-Ogden, and St. Joseph Winchester.
Coach Gibson and his team are excited to host the event again and look to keep their winning streak extended into the Shootout.
“It’s a great event that shows a lot of promise again this year. It helps showcase the great gym we have, the school, and the city of O’Fallon. We have teams from all over the area and it will be a great day of basketball,” said Gibson.
