Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking – O’Fallon Opportunities

This past week, I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Global Operations Command Facility at Scott Air Force Base.

The ceremony was attended by some of Illinois’ top elected officials and leaders, as well many high ranking officers and enlisted men and women of America’s Military.

The new, 164,000 square-foot, $100 million DISA Global complex houses the largest cyber operations center in the United States and provides centralized housing for all of DISA’s Global Joint Military, Civilian and Contractor Workforce.

One of my favorite quotes from the ribbon cutting ceremony came from Governor Rauner. He stated, “Jobs, technology, innovation, a dynamic local economy, that’s what this facility does. It protects America. It creates an opportunity for all Americans.”

Investing $100 million dollars and locating this command at Scott is an enormous stamp of approval from the Federal Government on the importance of Scott Air Force Base in defending this country.

The new DISA facility and the continued growth of Scott Air Force Base is another chapter in the positive story that this community has been creating over the past few decades.

According to the National Research Center, overall quality of community life represents the natural ambience, services and amenities that make for an attractive community. How residents rate their overall quality of life is an indicator of the overall health of a community. During this year’s National Citizen Survey, 95% of residents rated the City as an excellent or good place to live.

In addition to rating the City as a place to live, respondents rated several aspects of community quality including O’Fallon as a place to raise children and to retire, their neighborhood as a place to live, the overall image or reputation of O’Fallon and its overall appearance.

These positive results are no accident. They are the results of determination, leadership and shared vision by O’Fallon’s elected officials and the entire O’Fallon community. This community is already the best around, and the future is very bright!

The Federal Government and U.S. Military are making major investments at Scott Air Force Base and in the surrounding communities. HSHS St. Elizabeth’s, BJC and Memorial Hospital have made major investments by building two brand new hospitals along the “I-64 Healthcare Highway.” O’Fallon’s school districts have made significant investments in providing O’Fallon’s children with exceptional education. The City of O’Fallon has made significant investments in providing superior public safety, parks, and infrastructure. And, most importantly, O’Fallon residents have made significant personal and financial investments by choosing O’Fallon as their home.

O’Fallon’s storied past and bright future are yet more examples of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live.
