Tell us more about your business – what products and services do you offer?

We offer travel counseling, which can include anything from advice on which resort is best for you and your upcoming vacation or which cruise line, ship, and cabin is right for you, to a full trip itinerary recommendation including research on where to eat, what to do, history, popular spots, and activities.  These recommendations come from a variety of sources including education, experience, and research from hundreds of travel sites and numerous agents and clients.  Knowing where to go for factual information is key.

What motivated you to start your own business?

I used an online travel supplier for a cruise, and when our flights were cancelled last minute due to ice in our connecting city, no one contacted us – I just happened to have been checking up times.  I called the online supplier and was told it was my problem to deal with and that they only booked the trips.  I realized there was a need for services such as what I offer.

Anybody can book a trip online, but a travel agent can assist with problems as well as make suggestions based on facts for your personal needs and do the research for you, so you can spend more quality time with your family.

Do you have any suggestions for people interested in opening their own business?

Take business classes, do a Business and Marketing Plan, learn everything about the products you are going to propose to a client.  It is important to have personal knowledge or at least where to find the facts so you can be clear about what your client is going to see when they arrive.  This can be difficult due to regular changes to resorts and ships.  Nothing remains the same for long!

Do you have any upcoming events you’d like to share with our readers?

We are promoting some exclusive sailings for Alaska cruises this summer, and are going ourselves on one so contact us if you would like to join us or if you want to take your family on an amazing vacation adventure!  We also will be doing our annual winter cruise next year on one of the most exciting ships on the seas that offers zip lines, surfboard simulators, ice skating, rock climbing and full Broadway shows!  Contact us soon to grab a good spot on the ship!  The more the merrier!

If you’re interested in a trip to Alaska, consider attending our Alaska Cruise planning seminar with a Princess Cruise rep on Tuesday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. at Lattawatta Creek in Fairview Heights.   Please RSVP at travelyourway@charter.net.
