Vacant 17th Street restaurant building scheduled to be torn down this week

1711 w us hwy 50 (2)The owner of the building located at 1711 W US Hwy 50 told the O’Fallon Weekly that it is scheduled to be torn down sometime this week to make way for a new urgent care center. The building is across the street from the Auffenberg Auto Mall.
The building has been home to several restaurants – most recently Super Smokers BBQ and then 17th Street BBQ. Equipment and furniture inside the building was auctioned off last week and buyers had until Saturday, August 20 to pick up their items.
The building located in the back of the property will not be torn down. That building is currently occupied by CrossFit gym.
The owner of the building also owns the lot next door. He said that he has a letter of intent from a popular fast food restaurant to build a new building on the lot. The fast food franchise does not have any franchises in the metro east and this will be the first. Details on the new fast food restaurant will be released soon.
