Target has announced they will be ending their 27-year sponsorship in IndyCar at the end of this season. Partner of Chip Ganassi Racing since 1990, they have tallied 11 championships and four Indianapolis 500 victories, and for the past 15 years have been prominently displayed as the primary sponsor of the No. 9 car driven by Scott Dixon.

The move comes as Target is examining its marketing strategies under their new Chairman. They will continue to sponsor Ganassi’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team of Kyle Larson in 2017.

Target’s partnership with Ganassi is one of the longest in any racing series. “It’s the greatest sponsor in racing, ever,” Chip Ganassi said. “They’ve been nothing but good to me.”

Looking towards 2017 Ganassi stated that he is planning on running a four-car team and said Dixon is “not a tough sell at all” to sponsors. He expects to announce a replacement on the Target car within the next two months.
