Verna Jean Meinberg, nee Hughes, age 91, of Fairview Heights, born October 11, 1925 in Dallas, Texas, passed away Friday morning, December 2, 2016 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Illinois.
Jean moved to the metro-east in 1958. She attended Beauty School in Belleville and worked as a beautician for many years throughout the area. She retired from JC Penney Salon as the salon manager. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Mamie, nee Tillery, Hughes.
Surviving are her daughters Dana (Kenneth) Hasemann of O’Fallon, Ill., Mary Ready of Paderborn, Ill., and Charlye (Edward) French of Swansea, Ill., grandchildren David (Jessica) Hasemann of O’Fallon, Jennifer (Jeff) Maaske of Troy, Ill., Michael Gross of Fults, Ill., and Craig Gross of O’Fallon, Ill.; great-grandchildren Kevin and Megan Hasemann, Dalton Guthrie and Mikaela Maaske; her sister Pat Gray and nephew Glenn Gray, both of Broomfield, Co.
Memorial donations are suggested to either Heartland Hospice, Disabled American Veterans, or St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church (Belleville). The guestbook may be signed at www.wfh-ofallon.com .
Special appreciation is offered to Dr. David Rawdon, Dr. David O’Neill, Dr. Kashif Bhutto, Msgr. William McGhee and Chaplain Joe Rademacher, and the staff of Heartland Hospice and Memorial Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Jean and her family.
Ms. Meinberg has chosen to donate her body to Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri.
A private gathering will be hosted by the family at a later date.
